The far, icy reaches of our
planet are places man simply wasn't 'designed' to
go.
Alone, we cannot survive there; but our expedition
ships - Akademik Sergei Vavilov and Akademik Ioffe
- take us deep into the polar regions, to the ends
of the earth - in true comfort and safety.
With a maximum of 110-128 clients, our vessels are the
perfect 'home base' for exploring the polar wilderness,
moving us quickly from bay to island to fjord, and providing
a warm and comfortable homecoming at the end of a day's
exploration.
The
Best Ships - Speed, Stability and Manoeuvrability.
· Speed and stability mean we can normally cruise
at 10 to 12 knots, even in rough seas. This means more
time in Antarctica or the High Arctic, less time getting
there!
· Manoeuvrability allows us to explore the beautiful
small bays and inlets found at both poles.
· Stability also means clients are less likely
to be affected by motion sickness - the ships' stabilising
mechanism is advanced and reduces sideways roll by up
to 60 per cent.
Size Matters
Our ships are fitted out to carry around 100 clients.
This small group size gives us more time on excursions
away from the ship and greater flexibility.
· Antarctica guidelines specify that operators
cannot take more than 100 clients ashore at any one
time in Antarctica (this is a guideline we also follow
in the High Arctic). This means all clients can be ashore
at any one time. (If a ship carries, say, 200 clients,
then the result is less time ashore for each client.)
· We have enough expedition guides and zodiacs
on-board to take all of our clients off the ship at
one time - there are no shuttle runs or wasted opportunities
for exploring.
· Having the facilities to get all our clients
into zodiacs at one time affords us great flexibility
- if we spot congregating whales we don't simply sail
by; we'll stop, lower the zodiacs into the water and
observe these amazing creatures close-up. This also
allows us to cater for the individual interests of our
clients.
The
Best Leaders
Leaders and guides have a fundamental influence over
any adventure. Our exceptional leaders have a passion
for Antarctica and the High Arctic - and want to share
that passion with our clients.
· Some have degrees in Zoology, Biology and Marine
Biodiversity; others are ornithologists, photographers
or historians; others are polar medal winners - it's
the mix of knowledge and experience that means we have
the very best team.
· For those who want to take their adventure
experience one step further we have expert kayak guides
to lead our kayaking program.
· Many of our leaders have visited the Polar
Regions in excess of 100 times, and their combined experience
is second to none.
To sum up, it's about value
Our clients have told us they want value from their
polar adventure. Value is about maximising your exposure
to everything that these regions have to offer. A fast
ship saves time and gives you extra time in the polar
regions; providing enough zodiacs so everyone lands
together means you spend as much time off the ship as
possible; and everyone shares the same lasting experiences
together, in the presence of the world's foremost experts
on the Polar regions - the crew.
We have the right ships, the optimum number of clients,
enough expedition guides and zodiacs to look after those
clients, expert leaders and excellent food. Add to this
our commitment to operating the very best adventures
in the Polar Regions, and it's easy to see what sets
us apart from other operators:
The Best Ships, the Best Leaders, the Best
Experiences!
